Practice Areas

Our goal is to provide the highest quality legal services to you and your business in a timely fashion. We welcome the opportunity to talk with you and to discuss how we may be of service and would be happy to assist you regarding any of the following matters:

PRODUCTS LIABILITY
We have extensive experience in defending manufacturers of a wide range of products.  These include consumer and industrial products, home appliances, tires, tractor-trailers, chemicals, fire fighting equipment, electrical components, tools, industrial, safety and farm equipment, as well as many other products.

INSURANCE DEFENSE AND COVERAGE
We have successfully defended insurers in a broad range of cases in state and federal courts, including but not limited to:

  • Liability defense, including premises and products liability.
  • Coverage disputes.
  • Excess claims.
  • Bad faith claims.
  • Litigation involving insurance brokers and agents and claims under E&O policies.
  • Reinsurance treaties.

TORTS, PERSONAL INJURY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE
Our firm is one of experienced litigators.  We regularly handle matters at all levels of state and federal courts in Louisiana, representing insurance companies and their insureds, or one of our self-insured clients, against claims for personal injury and property damage, in all areas of Louisiana.

TRANSPORTATION
In the area of transportation law, we deal with numerous issues concerning motor carriers, including intermodal shipments of cargo, liability defense and products issues.

ADMIRALTY AND MARITIME
Practicing in one of the nation's largest ports, we have experience in the fields of admiralty and maritime law, whether it involves the personal injury claims of Jones Act seamen and Longshoremen, marine collision, cargo, the interest of small businesses that comprise the ownership of Louisiana's fishing fleet or the special concerns of the marine insuror.

COMMERCIAL LITIGATION
The firm has represented plaintiffs and defendants in almost every aspect of commercial litigation, including but not limited to antitrust, contract, quasi contract, business torts, and the entire range of litigation generated by commercial litigation in Louisiana.  The broad range of litigation matters which the firm does brings us into most state courts and all federal courts in Louisiana on a regular basis, which is a great advantage in commercial litigation matters.  The firm has an experienced staff of paralegal and support personnel, and computer capability, which is also a great advantage in dealing with the sometimes heavy document production in commercial litigation.  We also have expertise in alternative dispute resolution, arbitration and mediation, as a means of resolving commercial litigation successfully.

LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT.
We handle a broad range of non-union labor matters, including:

  • EEOC problems.
  • ADA.
  • ERISA.
  • Section 1981 and Title VII.
  • Wrongful discharge cases under state and federal law.

EMINENT DOMAIN
We have extensive experience both as attorneys for the expropriating public agency and for the owner whose property is threatened with expropriation for a public purpose.  We have served our clients as negotiators and as litigators.

ENVIRONMENTAL, HAZARDOUS WASTE AND TOXIC TORT LITIGATION
We have firsthand experience in dealing with environmental claims, regulation and compliance.  Our experience includes cases involving asbestos, chemical waste, Superfund and toxic torts.

ESTATE PLANNING, TRUST AND PROBATE
In Louisiana, the law provides for "forced heirship" for children 23 or younger and a descendant's estate is called a "succession."  Our experience in this area will not only explain our State's legal terminology, but will provide you with effective tax and estate planning.

MEDICAL MALPRACTICE
"Innovation" is the word that most aptly describes our practice in this area.  When Louisiana doctors were facing a malpractice insurance crisis, we joined together with another professional group to develop the Medical Malpractice Protection Plan which put together a program to make malpractice protection economically available to many medical doctors practicing in this State.  Since that time, we have closely monitored the legislation dealing with medical malpractice and lobbied for our client's interest.  We regularly have a member of the firm present at the meetings of the state agency that oversees medical malpractice issues.

PREMISES LIABILITY
Retailers, both local and national, look to our expertise in representing them in claims of premises liability, whether these be personal injury claims, alleged premises hazards, or cases involving false arrest, the actions of third parties on the premises, or security issues, we have a great deal of experience in defending the premises owner, business operator and security firm.

PROCUREMENT LAW
We represent Louisiana and out-of-state companies which sell to the state of Louisiana and local governments in negotiation, administrative hearings and judicial review of government procurement matters.

PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES
Our firm has an ongoing relationship with one of the oldest professional sports agents in the country.  Professional athletes in football, basketball, baseball and golf have looked to this firm when it is time for contract negotiations.

REAL ESTATE
We have worked with national and local clients in purchasing real estate, negotiating shopping center leases, and developing real estate projects.  We also represent the New Orleans Downtown Development District.

ZONING
We regularly appear before zoning boards and historic preservation commissions to assist our clients in dealing with zoning requirements.

These areas of practice are the ones in which we feel we have a special expertise for the benefit of our clients.  Realizing that a small firm does not practice in all areas of the law, we have set up a network of attorneys who work exclusively in specific areas.  These attorneys, although not part of this firm, have a long working relationship with us so that we are comfortable in referring our clients to them when specific needs arise.  These areas include immigration, complex bankruptcy, mineral law, patent and tax matters.  By maintaining this referral network, we can bring in the appropriate professional advice when one of our clients encounters an unusual problem that demands special expertise.
