Guste, Barnett, Schlesinger, Henderson & Alpaugh, L.L.P. has a long history and is well known for the experience and diversity of its lawyers. Our lineage dates back to before Louisiana's statehood. In 1809, Alfred Hennen, a graduate of Yale, opened an office for the practice of law in Exchange Place in what today is known as the Vieux Carre. Since that early beginning, the Hennen firm evolved in a direct line, continuously remaining in business, although changing in name, to today's firm with successor partners taking over from elder ones who retired or passed away. The names Guste and Barnett first appeared as associates in the firm in 1916. The current name, Guste, Barnett, Schlesinger, Henderson & Alpaugh, L.L.P., has been in effect since 2007.
For almost two centuries, the firm has represented the interests of residents and businesses in Louisiana and has had a legacy of involvement in community and public services which continues to this day. The firm's longevity allows us to count among our many long term clients one of the oldest and most famous restaurants in America (Antoine's) and the music house which first published the song "Dixie" (Werlein's), as well as clients new to business and new to Louisiana. We represent the continuum of the American business community, from the Fortune 500 company to the sole proprietor. Our fields of practice are varied and, in some instances specialized. We cover a broad range of general business and personal interests and we work with our business clients to avoid litigation wherever possible.
The firm has a group of dedicated lawyers with many years of experience in litigation all over Louisiana. Our facilities are modern and practical for our clients' needs. Our offices, located in the New Orleans Central Business District, are near state and federal courts, both trial and appellate. Our computer system includes relational databases for document management, litigation support and management of complex cases, the latest release of Amicus Attorney for overall case management, the usual word processing and spread sheet programs and Amicus Accounting for time management and electronic billing. The firm is actively updating its computer capabilities to meet the requirements and opportunities of the 21st century. All of the firm's attorneys and personnel are involved in meeting the challenge of the era of modern communications. |
